Nursery Update - We’re Making Progress!
My mom got started on the nursery last week and crushed it! Last week the room started as a completely blank canvas and this week all the walls are now complete. Every time I walk in there I can see little bits of the vision coming to life, and it just makes me so excited for baby boy to make his entrance into this world and to bring him home to his room.
The plan for last week was to paint, add picture frame moulding and chair rail, and then wallpaper. In case you missed it, this is the most precious wallpaper and I knew it was the perfect one the moment I saw it! So here is how the room looked before she got her hands on it….
Last week she was able to make a tonnn of progress. Day one was spent drawing out the lines of where she wanted everything around the whole room with a level. That helped me visualize where the moulding would go. Then I had to choose the paint color which is always hard because there are so so many options lol. We ended up picking a few different colors and got some $5 samples at Lowe’s and painted them on the wall to help me make a decision. This was the perfect way to be able to visualize the colors in the space without having to buy a full gallon of paint!! The colors looked so different from the swatches once we got them up on the wall in the room and the one I chose was actually a last-minute change in plans! The color we ended up doing was Sherwin Williams Jogging Path mixed at 50% which made the color 50% lighter than it was on the swatch! I think it will look so beautiful with the wallpaper once that is up!!
Once I made a final decision on the color my mom got to work outlining all of the frames for the picture frame moulding with the paint. Incase you aren’t familiar with it, picture frame moulding is exactly what it sounds like. It is moulding that is cut to fit together to make what looks like a giant picture frame on the wall.
After that was all outlined she bought all the moulding and got to work cutting it to build the frames. It took her a day to install the chair rail, which is the piece of moulding that goes around the entire center of the room across all of the walls, two days to do the picture frame moulding, and an afternoon to do the crown moulding.
The next few days were spent doing some finishing touches: filling nail holes, sanding and caulking everything. It’s a longgg process but she crushed it!
Then, this week she was able to paint all of the trim and installed the wallpaper!! I couldn’t waittttt for this step because I feel like it really brought the whole room to life! The carpet was also installed this week and we got the chandelier hung as well! This room is truly becoming everything I have dreamed of and it’s making me so excited to bring baby boy home!! (P.S. the door arch still needs stained lol)
Next time you see this room it will be completely furnished/decorated and ready for baby boy!! Yayyyyy!!
XOXO, TAY
